Let's reflect and workshop the future of organizing around climate and environmental justice in the Wikimedia movement.
Climate change is one of the biggest challenges of our times. And Wikimedians have stepped up to that challenge! For the last three years, we have seen significant organizing happening around the #WikiForHumanRights Campaign, the Wiki Loves Earth photo contest, among many other initiatives. Our movement is bringing awareness to the role that Wikipedia and its sister projects have in mobilizing neutral, reliable and evidence-based information for climate action.
As the momentum for the topic is growing, we want to collectively reflect on what are the strategic directions that the Wikimedia movement could take in organizing around the topic.
This workshop proposes to reflect collectively on the following questions:
What outstanding actions/projects have been organized by communities in different regions around environment, climate change and sustainability?
What have we learned from these experiences (what works, what doesn't work and what could be improved)?
What role can the Wikimedia movement play in the fight for climate and environmental justice?
Where are we now and where do we want to go?
How and what do we need to get there?

This is the most pressing topic of our time. This concern has led several movement organizers to get involved and bridge the gap between climate and environmental justice activists and the Wikimedia movement. This topic offers an opportunity to connect with indigenous people defending their land rights, with environmental organizers, with public policy government officials, and offer them a new perspective on how to interact with Wikimedia projects as a platform for receiving and producing information around this urgent topic.
