Partner session (Klara Sielicka-Baryłka & Paula Kielar)
In this lecture, we will explore how the Be Internet Awesome program, with its core values, can be successfully implemented across diverse organizations and audiences. By examining different approaches and training models of 11 countries, we aim to demonstrate the program’s adaptability and effectiveness. Our partners, like Wikimedians, are from around the world, sharing a common interest in education and cooperation. We will emphasize the importance of digital awareness and well-being in today’s interconnected global environment.
Our presentation will dive into the Be Internet Awesome program, a Google.org initiative designed to promote online safety and digital literacy among young users. We will highlight the five core values of the program:
Be Internet Smart: Encouraging critical thinking and responsible behavior online.
Be Internet Alert: Teaching users to recognize and avoid potential risks.
Be Internet Strong: Empowering individuals to protect their personal information.
Be Internet Kind: Promoting positive interactions and empathy.
Be Internet Brave: Addressing cyberbullying and standing up for others.
We will showcase how different organizations, despite varying backgrounds and goals, can successfully implement these values among teachers and students (from kindergarten up to high schoolers!) By sharing real-world examples, we’ll illustrate the program’s impact on digital well-being besides gaining digital competencies..
Our discussion will also touch upon the grant-based learning structure that serves as a foundation for these implementations.
